About Us

Owners Sam & Ron Whelan have been involved in the fabric business for a combined total of 59 years! So we know our fabrics and if we haven't got it we will try and find it for you.

Ron first began working in his parents business from 1969 and we started our own Wholesale Fabric business RJ Textiles in 1993.

As RJ Textiles we began to supply the local dance schools with lycra's and fancy holograms, etc. Customers would come in and say "Wow! there's nothing like this anywhere else!" As a result it seemed only natural to start up a sister company dealing with fabrics for the dance and theatrical market.

In December 2005 we moved to our new premises in Riverhead, a gorgeous outer suburb of Auckland and it is here that Dance Fabrics Direct was "Born" in September 2006.

We have seen a fantastic rise in the number of customers coming from word of mouth and web-based enquires from thru'out NZ and now we also export by mail order anywhere in the world.

We can cater to your individual needs whether you are looking for a half a metre or 100 metres! We offer wholesale rates for bulk purchases.

Our customers include Farmers Santa Parade where a lot of the costumes are made using our fabrics.
We were very involved with supplying TVNZ Dancing With The Stars plus Movie Companies such as Ranger Productions and South Pacific Pictures. Local Theatre Productions, Costume Hire, Eventing & Weddings, Aerobics & Gymnastics, Ice & Roller skating, Swimming & even Wrestling, Boxing and Body Builders, in fact anyone who wants to make a costume.
